Update: Squiggle is here!

hi guys.

My little geek arrived last weekend, on Saturday the 6th August.
He was 2 weeks late and weighed 8lbs 9oz, he's 8 days old today :-) and we're both doing well. My labour only lasted about 4 1/2 hours and I managed on gas and air. I've got a lot to be grateful for... he's very healthy and sleeping well (when he's full!)

I won't be using his name on the blog, just because, you now, the internet lasts forever. I'll still be calling him Squiggle :-)

Normal programming will resume shortly, I haven't hung up my crafting hat yet :-) I've got at least 3 projects in the pipeline which I'll get to as soon as I can get this sleepy baby off my tummy.

love to you all!!

Embroidered Stargate Baby Vest

oh baby :-)

PLEASE tell me you recognise that guy!

I've agonised for AGES over whether or not that looks enough like Jack O'Neill... in the end I put the little point of origin symbol in the bottom left hand corner just to give people a little clue :-)

Of course not every one's seen as much Stargate as me and my family (ie. ALL of it :-) ) but hopefully the text makes this project 'accessible' to all on some level or other.

Yet another example of my incredulity and recognition of the absurdity that within a couple of weeks I'm going to be taking the final blindfolded step into the precipice of parenthood... I can't believe I'm already 38 1/2 weeks pregnant.

Here, have the picture I used as a kind of pattern:
Hopefully you can see what I did there... I put this image together on Gimp by fiddling with the colour levels and adding the text. Then I more or less used my monitor as a lightbox and (tried my best to...) trace all of those black shaded areas directly onto my fabric... and then just stitched!

I tried to use my intuition/gut feeling about how to compose the image, starting with the larger shaded areas, filling them in with satin stitch, and then outlining that, and doing the finer lines with backstitch. The text is done in a mixture of chain stitch and backstitch to make some words seem more bold than others.

Here's my work on the hoop for you purists!

one and a half weeks to go... hopefully....

36 Weeks: Our bodies are too bumpalicious for ya babe!

This weekend I had Tea and cake with my pregnant lady friends from my NCT antenatal class :-) it was nice. The cups were big and they matched the teapot (no photo for this you're just going to have to take my word for it)

Here are our tummies!!
haha I have a friend who has a phobia of pregnant women (srsly...) ... This would be his WORST nightmare.

Why don't you test yourself? guess which one of us is due first. Oh and which one is ME?! Answer after the 'read more' link :-)

On a crafty note, the unicorn embroidery is still in progress. Taking a lot longer than I'd expected but it's a BIG piece of work so I'm kinda not surprised. I'm also partway through the dress version of my Maternity 'pirate' top. I've only got around 4 weeks left to go, but the great thing is that because it's elasticated I can wear it after Squiggle arrives, and 'cos it's button up it'll be good for breastfeeding. win win win win win.

Anyhow, guessed whose going to 'pop' first yet? Guessed which one is me?

35 Weeks - 5 to GOOO!!

This is not a father's day post, sorry :-)

I read a great pregnancy blog from pregnant chicken the other day, What to do in your last Trimester. This blog is great fun and wholeheartedly recommended for anyone, even more so if you or or your partner is pregnant :-).

I'm not going to reproduce the whole list here, but here are a few things that I did already, either consciously or unconsciously, in preparation for the arrival of baby Squiggle. Reading them on the list made me do a mental 'fist in the air' BOOYAH!

TG: 33 Weeks!!

We're into countdown mode now, 33 weeks, 7 weeks left to go!

This is a top I made myself out of a men's shirt. It was intended to just give me something to wear to a pirate theme party I went to last weekend, but it's turned out to be the most comfortable top EVER.

I'm on maternity leave from work now and I'd been squeezing myself into an array of maternity and non-maternity wear since I was determined not to buy anything new for the last couple of weeks. Being able to dress casually full time now (and even just in my PJs if I like) is SUCH a relief!

Anyhow... I took lots of pictures, so a tutorial for making a top like this will be coming up this week. It took no time at all!! and I've even gone out and bought a couple more shirts (from charity shops - of course!) so I can make some more and perhaps make a dress modification (did I mention it's the most comfortable thing ever?)

EDIT: Tutorial is UP!! - HERE

My baby related thoughts are:
I'm thinking about...  going for a water birth, the hospital I'm going to is well equipped for water births (I believe) and I'll talk to my midwife about it when I see her next.
The Husb0t has begun... clearing out 'his' StarWars room so it can start receiving baby related furniture.
I have... a gym ball! so I can sit on it to encourage my Squiggle to get in the correct position for birth - if the Husb0t will ever get off the damn thing!
I'm frustrated... that there doesn't seem to be anything going on in the NCT Branch where I live. I'm going to invite some of my antenatal class ladies round to sew some breastfeeding pillows and stuff... if they want.. I'll be doing it anyway so it's a good way of them getting something for nothing (and a good way for me to reduce my stash!)

British TV Comedy Swap - What I Recieved!

My partner in this swap was Baloo. It's always a game of Russian roulette when you swap with a 'new swapper' in retrospect I think I was a pretty crap first time swapper myself. I sent my Dr Who Knitting Needle Roll... which... you know... did include a 12 inch embroidered design... which was pretty awesome... but I didn't really send anything else much... anyhow... I'm now a seasoned veteran (lol) I'm even ORGANISING a swap at the moment (I KNOW!! who died and made ME a responsible adult...)

Anyhoo, enough with this random meandering! check out the awesome stuff I received from this first time swapper on the British TV Comedy Swap!

I particularly love the baby-grows/Onesies. They completely appeal to my sense of humour an irreverence over the whole baby situation, and I DOUBLE love that I'm going to have a mam and baby matching T-shirt set!! hahaha!! AWESOME!. I wear a lot of t-shirt/jeans combos so those shirts will be well loved and the tote bag will completely be adored by all of my IT helpdesk friends (of which I have many). And the cute starbug!! that'll go in the baby's room too... when err... the baby gets a room

Sunday Squee!!

cross posted at teensygeek:

You can get this super cute baby onsie from HutchMe’s Etsy shop. In my household the little jedi jokes have already begun, Mr T half suggested that he would like to consider Luke as a name. I dont think I could deal with that.

But I have developed a good stock answer for questions about the baby’s gender.
“are you going to find out if it’s a girl or a boy?”
“nah, no point, wether it’s a girl or a boy it’s still going to be dressed up as yoda”
